Iraqi Air Force destroys ISIS hideout in Salah Al-Din

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Joint Operations Command announced on Thursday that air force fighter jets carried out strikes against a hideout of ISIS terrorists in a mountainous area in Tuz Khurmatu in Salah Al-Din governorate.
The Joint Operations Command mentioned in a statement that Iraqi fighter jets carried out air strikes targeting a hideout in a mountain range in Tuz Khurmatu after receiving information from the Iraqi Directorate of General Military Intelligence (DGMI), according to the state news agency (INA).
The statement indicated that the air strike killed ISIS terrorists and destroyed their weapons and logistical equipment.
Last week, the DGMI announced the elimination of ISIS members and the arrest of others in separate security operations in different Iraqi governorates.
In mid-November, the Iraqi Air Force destroyed a hideout belonging to ISIS and killed two terrorists in Salah Al-Din governorate, north of Baghdad.
UN experts said in a report issued last August that the ISIS group still commands between 5,000 and 7,000 members across its former strongholds in Syria and Iraq, according to the AP.
The report mentioned that during the first half of 2023, the threat posed by ISIS remained mostly high in conflict zones and low in non-conflict areas.
The report that is directed to the UN Security Council said that the overall situation is dynamic, and despite significant losses in the group’s leadership and reduced activity in Syria and Iraq, the risk of its resurgence remains.
Iraq announced in late 2017 the liberation of all its territories from the grip of ISIS, but the authorities are constantly launching security operations to pursue remnants of the terrorist group that carry out attacks from time to time in the country.
