Baghdad confirms ability to pursue perpetrators of attacks on diplomatic missions

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, confirmed on Tuesday that security forces can pursue the perpetrators of attacks on diplomatic missions.
Al-Sudani’s remarks took place during a phone call with the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, where they reviewed several topics, including the bilateral ties between Iraq and the United States and the latest developments in the region and the world, according to a statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
The Iraqi Prime Minister emphasized Iraq’s eagerness to build partnerships to confront economic, security, and climate challenges as part of the efforts supporting stability in the region.
Al-Sudani highlighted Iraq’s commitment to protecting diplomatic missions and advisors, stressing “the ability of the Iraqi security forces to carry out their duties in pursuing the perpetrators of attacks on diplomatic missions without the intervention of any party.
Blinken expressed appreciation for the Iraqi government’s measures to secure diplomatic missions and embassies operating in Iraq and to pursue the parties behind the attacks.
Last week, a missile bombardment targeted the US Embassy inside the Green Zone in central Baghdad.
Iraqi armed groups supported by Tehran have claimed responsibility for more than 70 similar attacks on American forces since October 17 in response to Washington’s support for Israel in its war in Gaza.
