Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs offered condolences on Tuesday to the victims of the earthquake that struck areas in Japan.

The Iraqi Foreign Ministry mentioned in a statement that it expresses its sincere condolences and solidarity with the government and people of Japan because of the earthquake that struck the central part of the country on Monday.

Scenes of destruction appeared on Tuesday along the western coast of Japan as rescuers rushed to help individuals who were buried beneath the debris following a 7.5-magnitude earthquake that killed scores of people and caused several aftershocks.

On Monday afternoon, an earthquake struck the Noto Peninsula in the central prefecture of Ishikawa, causing buildings to collapse, fires to break out, and tsunami warnings to be sent as far away as eastern Russia.

Officials from the Ishikawa prefecture said that at least 57 people have been killed by the earthquake, according to Japan’s public broadcaster, NHK.
