Iraq’s Elections Commission withdraws case against al-Mashriq – al-Barlaman newspapers

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Iraq ’s High Independent Elections Commission has decided on Thursday to withdraw the court case it had raised against al-Mashriq and al-Barlaman newspapers, calling on the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate to take legal measures to activate restrictions to publish articles and reports in the press.   “In response to the request, presented by the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate on 25/5/2011 to the Commissioners Council in the Elections Commission, regarding the case against al-Mashriq and al-Barlaman newspapers, about articles they published, free from facts and evidence,” said a Commission’s statement, copy of which was received by IraqiNews.com news agency.   The statement said that “in compliance with the principle of partnership between both sides and taking the principles of vocational media action into consideration, the Commissioners Council decided to withdraw the case against he said two newspapers, provided that the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate carry out legal measures, according to its internal system, towards the articles and reports, in order to avoid such problems in the future.”   SKH (IT)     493
