Iraqi Parliament may withdraw trust in High Independent Elections Commission – MP

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The Iraqi Parliament is heading towards the withdrawal of trust from the High Independent Elections Commission, charged with financial and administrative corruption, the Legislature of the State of Law Coalition, Mohammed Sayhoud said on Tuesday. “The Parliament is heading towards withdrawing the trust from the High Independent Elections Commission, for its involvement in financial and administrative corruption,” Sayhoud told IraqiNews.com news agency.   Sayhoud said the Commission “had not been independent or neutral, as it had been operating according to rules it had laid out for itself only.” “The Parliament had not completed the questing of the Commission members, as it had discussed 13 out of 30 questions,” he said, adding that the Parliament had allocated a special session next week to end the questioning. In conclusion, Sayhoud said that Iraqi Parliament is fully convinced to withdraw the trust from the Commission, “and won’t be satisfied by same, but shall present the Commission to the Integrity Commission and the investigation councils, in order to achieve justice.” The Parliament had held a special session on Monday, led by its Speaker, Usama al-Nujeify, to question the Chairman of the said Commission, according to a Parliament source.   SKH (TI)/SR 482
