Iraqi Parliament calls on government to withdraw US forces from Iraq
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, urged the Iraqi government on Monday to abide by the Parliament’s decision to withdraw US forces from the country.
Al-Mandalawi considered that the assassination of the commander of the Quds Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, Qasem Soleimani, and the chief of staff of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) in Iraq, Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis, in an air strike near Baghdad airport in 2020 represented brutal aggression.
Al-Mandalawi’s press office mentioned in a statement that the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament called on the government to implement the parliament’s decision, which calls for the withdrawal of the international coalition forces from Iraqi territory, as the decision represents the will of the Iraqi people.
The statement clarified that the Iraqi Parliament is ready to give the government the support it needs to carry out the decision.
The Iraqi Parliament had voted in early 2020 to oblige the government to withdraw foreign forces from the country and cancel the security agreement with the United States.
The parliament also requested the assistance of the international coalition against ISIS to fight terrorism after the US air strike near Baghdad International Airport killed Soleimani and Al-Muhandis.
