Women affairs minister meets UN representative

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The State Minister for Women Affairs Ibtihal al-Zaidi received the  UN representative in Iraq Dina Zorba today.   During the meeting, they discussed establishing a national center to support businesswomen, similar to that of the businessmen’s federation.   In a statement issued by the minister’s office, both sides discussed the program to develop the private sector, which was approved by the Iraqi cabinet, with the support of the UNDP, as well as the establishment of the women’s center.   The statement added that the UN representative reviewed the role of the United Nations in the program which concentrates on developing private sector workers’ potentials in order to lessen the gaps in providing work opportunities between men and women alike.   “The United Nations will have contracts with experts to provide reports on the constitution, civil law, labor law, economic reform (privatization) to be submitted to the working group of the developing private sector programme”, she added.   RM (TS)/SR 430
