US President nominates new ambassador to Iraq

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The US President, Joe Biden, announced on Thursday his intent to nominate Tracey Ann Jacobson to be the US Ambassador to Iraq.
Biden said that Jacobson would serve as one of the key leaders in his administration, according to a statement released by the White House.
The step comes after Baghdad agreed with Washington to establish a timetable for the withdrawal of the international coalition from Iraq.
Iraq and the United States agreed to launch a High Military Committee to evaluate the threat ISIS poses and to draw up a timetable for the gradual withdrawal of the advisors of the international coalition combating ISIS in Iraq, according to the Iraqi Foreign Ministry.
At the US Embassy in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Jacobson, a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, class of Career Minister, most recently held the position of Charge d’Affaires ad interim.
Jacobson held three positions as an American ambassador—to Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Kosovo—as well as the position of deputy chief of mission in the American embassy in Riga, Latvia.
Jacobson graduated with a B.A. from Johns Hopkins University and an M.A. from the university’s School of Advanced International Studies.
