Kuwaiti port discussions should be public – MP

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: White Iraqiyah bloc MP demanded Iraqi executive and legislative organs to discuss the Kuwait Mobarak port question in public, not behind doors. In a statement, copy received by IraqiNews.com,  MP Alia Nisaif expressed its concern that “some parties do not want to discuss the matter in public”. “This case incites greater dialogue that will make us lose our chance to press on the Kuwaitis and use our territorial waters”, the statement added. A group of parliaments formed last May a 15-member gathering called 17 May to follow up this matter. Kuwait announced last April it will start establishing Mobarak port after one year of Iraqi reported intentions to build the Greater Fao Terminal. Iraqi Ministry of Transport laid down the corner stone for the Fao terminal, but did not start its works. The port is expected to have a containers pier for 39 km, and an open space for the containers with 2 million square meters. The expected costs of the project shall be 4.4 billion Euros, and hopes that it will connected with Europe by a railway station. RM (TS)/SR 364
