Baghdad is trying to discourage Washington from launching attacks in Iraq
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Officials in the Iraqi government had made contacts to discourage the United States from carrying out retaliatory attacks in Iraq after a drone attack targeted US forces in Jordan.
A source told Shafaq News that the attempt aims to prevent any escalation and security tension in Iraq and the region.
US President Joe Biden vowed retaliation for US servicemen killed in an attack that Iranian-backed groups in Iraq claimed was their own.
The US Department of Defense announced that the number of Americans wounded in the attack in Jordan had risen to 40.
Jordan condemned the attack that targeted an advanced site on the border with Syria.
Since the outbreak of the war between Israel and Hamas, tension has generally escalated in the region on several fronts, including Iraq, Syria, Yemen, and Lebanon, where armed factions supported by Iran exist.
Military bases housing US forces in Iraq and Syria have been subjected to more than 150 attacks by armed factions since October 17.
Last week, these factions threatened to begin a second phase of attacks, including more intense strikes in the Mediterranean Sea, to besiege Israel’s ports.
