Iraq’s Kurdistan President congratulates South Sudan’s President on Independence

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: North Iraq’s Kurdistan President, Massoud Barzani, has congratulated the President of the Republic of South Sudan, Silva Kir, on the occasion of the independence of his Republic, praising what he termed as “the courage of the   Sudanese Republic to respect the decision of the people of the South to announce independence,” and expressing hope that “other areas would act with a similar high spirit towards the will of any people, wishing independence.”   “President Barzani has sent a telegram of congratulations on Saturday to the President of the Republic of South-Sudan, on the occasion of the independence of South-Sudan,” an official statement by the Kurdistan Region’s government said.   “We have received, with great happiness, the announcement of independence, after five decades on bloody struggle by the people of South Sudan ,” Barzani said, expressing readiness by the Kurdistan Region to “present all types of possible help in this respect.”   “Your lively experience has proved that any people, with a will for independence, must reach their goals one day; and I look with the eye of respect towards your struggle and the struggle of South Sudan, whilst I look with admiration towards the courage of the Leadership of The Republic of Sudan, to respect your struggle and the struggle of South Sudan to respect the decision of your people at the referendum for which 98% of Southerners have voted for independence; hence I wish that all other areas would deal with a similar high spirit towards the will of any people, wishing independence,” Barzani said.   SKH (RT) 628
