Police forces nab wanted suspects in Diwaniya

DIWANIYA/IraqiNews.com: Iraqi police forces on Tuesday arrested a number of suspected and wanted individuals during raid operation conducted in Diwaniya, a security spokesman said. “Joint forces of Diwania’s local and emergency police conducted a military operation in three sections of al-Askari district and streets leading to central Diwaniya, capturing a number of suspects and wanted individuals,” Brig. Abdelaziz al-Salihi, director of Diwaniya media department, told IraqiNews.com. “Forces seized quantities of light and medium weapons by using hi-tech explosives detectors supplied by the interior Ministry, “the spokesman noted. Diwaniya, 180 km south Baghdad, was the scene of battles between Iraqi army and militiamen loyal to Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr in August 2006. The fighting was renewed in March-April 2008, like in many southern cities, when Iraqi security forces backed by U.S. troops launched a crackdown on militias in Basra. AM(S) 1
