Nujeify confers results of his US visit with US Ambassador to Baghdad

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Iraq’s Parliament Speaker, Usama al-Nujeify, has discussed the results of his recent visit to the United States with the U.S. Ambassador to Baghdad, James Jeffrey, a Parliament statement reported on Saturday.   “Nujeify has discussed with Jeffrey the results of his recent visit to the United States, the developments of the situation in Iraq and the political situation in the country,” the statement, a copy of which was received by IraqiNews.com news agency, stressed.   It reported Nujeify as having called the meeting in order to “follow up on the issue of the Iraqi funds and the completion of the investigations to uncover their fate, in order to return them to Iraq.”   The Iraqi government recently lamented the loss of US$15.5 billion (b), being Iraq’s funds that were kept in the United States before the downfall of the former Iraqi regime in 2003, which the U.S. said they did not exceed US$6 billion (b), saying they were sent to Iraq, but Baghdad had announced their “loss” for unknown reasons.   SKH (TI)/SR 421
