Iraq revitalizes Al-Shamal’s refinery in Baiji, signaling economic progress

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani marked a significant milestone in the nation’s industrial resurgence with the inauguration of the Al-Shamal unit in the Baiji refinery. This event comes after a prolonged hiatus spanning over a decade, during which the refinery underwent extensive rehabilitation efforts.
In 2014, terrorists took control of the refinery, and during the conflict between them and the Iraqi security forces who eventually reclaimed it, significant damage was caused.
The revitalization of the Baiji refinery represents a crucial step forward for Iraq’s oil industry, which plays a pivotal role in the country’s economy and global energy markets. The refinery could possibly process 150,000 barrels per day of crude oil.
