Al-Iraqiya Coalition calls for raising complain to UN Security Council against Iranian violations on Iraq’s rivers.

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Al-Iraqiya Coalition, led by Iyad Allawi, has called on the Iraqi government to raise a complain at the UN Security Council, about Iranian violations of Iraq’s water interests, according to a statement it issued on Thursday. “Stemming from keenness towards the positive relations with Iraq’s neighborly states, al-Iraqiya Coalition demands the formation of a committee, representing the United Nations and the Islamic Conference Organization, to carry out a field survey and to raise a complain with the UN Security Council about the Iranian violations against Iraq’s legitimate right in dozens of rivers, pouring into Iraq, especially al-Wand, al-Kharkha and Karoun Rivers, due to the fact that such acts stand counter to the international and bilateral agreements between Iraq and Iran,” the statement stressed. It added that al-Iraqiya Coalition “had reaffirmed several times on necessity to draw foreign policies in a vocational manner, including clear principles, based on the interests and sovereignty of Iraq on its territories and waters, non-interference in its internal affairs, along with al-Iraqiya’s continuous warnings against the absence of such policies and their impacts on Iraq ’s security and stability.” “Tension between the Iraqi people and peoples of the neighboring states had reached a dangerous stage that can’t be settled unless through constructive and direct dialogue with those states, to be based on international agreements that protect Iraq’s water rights, and to lean to the regional and international organizations, such as the Gulf Cooperation Council, the Islamic Conference Organization, the Arab League and the United Nations, to protect Iraq’s interests,” the statement added.
