Fact-Finding Committee to present report about Iranian bombardment soon

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Iraq’s Fact-Finding Committee, formed to investigate facts about the Iranian bombardment of northern Iraq, shall present its report about its field visits to the areas of the bombardment and meetings with citizens and officials there, to the Parliament, as soon as its completes its contents, an MP said on Sunday. “The Committee that was sent to the border areas to investigate facts about the Iranian bombardment, was formed by the Parliament’s Security, Defense, Foreign Relations Committees, along with the Committee of Prisoners and Victims of Terrorism,” Abbas al-Bayati told IraqiNews.com news agency. Bayati said that the committee would present its report to the Parliament upon completion. The report follows field visits to the areas of the bombardment, where the committee met citizens and officials there. “The committee returned to Baghdad on Saturday and shall take some time to prepare its report, after carrying out dialogue among its members, and as soon as it completes the report, it shall present it to the Parliament’s Chairmanship, who will on its part, add it on the schedule of its discussions,” he added. With regards to the possibility of the Iraqi Parliament or government turning to the United Nations in the event of the continuation of the bombardment, Bayati said, “the government and the Parliament differ in their work, as the Parliament would act through the formation of fact-finding committees to follow up such incidents and then prepare a report that would be raised to its Chairmanship. The government would act through its diplomatic arm, which is the Foreign Ministry.” He did not point to the possibility of leaning on the United Nations. Iranian artillery have been bombarding villages and areas belonging to north Iraq’s Kurdistan Region, particularly in the areas of Choman, Hal-Omran and Soran, under justification of chasing its opposition forces taking refuge in those areas. The areas of Mergasur, Kani-Rash, Tak-Shin, on the Iraqi Kurdistan borders, belonging to Choman township in Arbil Province, had become targets for severe Iranian bombardment in mid July, forcing inhabitants of about 20 Kurdish villages to desert the area.
