19 rural roads constructed in Wassit

WASSIT / IraqiNews.com: A total of 19 rural roads have been established in Wassit province as part of the 2008 provincial development projects. “Today, the roads and bridges department announced the construction of 19 rural roads in the province at a total cost of over 3 billion Iraqi dinars,” Wassit’s assistant mayor, Engineer Subeih Lafta, told IraqiNews.com. Work on the roads began on March 1, 2008, Lafta noted. Next week, local authorities in the province will blacklist all state departments, which have not managed to implement their projects on time. A Shiite province, Wassit, 180 km south of Baghdad , is in the east of the country. Its name comes from the Arabic word meaning “middle,” as it lies along the Tigris about midway between Baghdad and Basra . Its major cities include the capital, al-Kut, and al-Hayy.
