Parliament session convenes to discuss “illusionary” contracts

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The Iraqi Parliament has convened on Sunday to discuss the issue of the so-called “illusionary” contacts with Electricity Minister Raad Shallal who was recently sacked because of it, according to a Parliament media source.   “The Parliament’s 21st session, scheduled for today (Sunday) has began under the chairmanship of its Speaker, Usama al-Nujeify, and attendance of 221 MPs, to discuss the “illusionary” contracts with the Electricity Minister, along with the report of the Parliament’s Security & Defense committee about the escape of prisoners from Hilla Prison,” the source told IraqiNews.com news agency.   Iraq’s Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki, had sacked the Electricity Minister, Raad Shallal, from his post, in the background of financial and administrative corruption in his Ministry, following reports that he had concluded “illusionary” contracts in the name of his Ministry for U.S. $1.7 billion (b), sources, close to the Cabinet stressed.   SKH (TI)/SR 326
