Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, received on Tuesday a delegation from General Dynamics, a global aerospace and defense company based in the US, to discuss an armament deal.

The meeting took place in Washington DC as the Iraqi Prime Minister is paying an official visit to the United States, where he met with the US President, Joe Biden, and other senior officials, including the Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, and the Secretary of Defense, Lloyd Austin.

The step reflects the Iraqi government’s efforts to restore its armaments-related military capabilities, according to a statement cited by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).

The discussion included the sale of tanks and armored fighting vehicles in addition to working together to establish a major workshop for tank development and repair that is climate-appropriate for Iraq.

The statement mentioned that, as part of the government’s objectives to modernize its military institution and equip it with a variety of weaponry, the two sides decided to begin a number of projects in the near future.

In addition to tanks and armored fighting vehicles, General Dynamics produces business jets, nuclear-powered submarines, and guided-missile destroyers.
