PM Maliki assigns new Chairman for Integrity Commission
BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Iraq ’s Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki, has assigned Judge Ala’a Jawad Hamid to carry out the duties of Chairman of the Integrity Commission, according to a Commission statement on Sunday. “A Premier order has been issued on 20/9/2011 to assign the Acting Chairman of the Property Cases, Judge Ala’a Jawad Hamid, with the duties of Chairman of the Integrity Commission, in addition to his current post, till further notice,” the statement stressed. The former Chairman of the Integrity Commission, Rahim al-Ugeily, had announced his resignation from his post following the Parliament’s delay of issuing a law to organize the Commission’s Law, preventing any collision between its authorities and the executive government institutions. Prime Minister Maliki had charged the Integrity Commission with failure to fight corruption in the State institutions. The Iraqi Parliament had voted in its Saturday session on the law for the Integrity Commission in an overwhelming majority. The Integrity Commission is an official independent Commission, assigned to confirm public integrity and fighting corruption, was established in Iraq in the name of the General Integrity Commission, according to a law, issued by Iraq ’s former Ruling Council and the Permanent Iraqi Constitution of 2005 an independent commission, under observation of the Parliament.
