Iraqi MP charges security officials with being behind escape of prisoners from Basra prison

BASRA / IraqiNews.com: Iraqi Parliament Member, from al-Ahrar (Liberals) bloc, Uday Awad, has charged security officials with having been involved in the escape of prisoners from southern Iraq Basra’s Presidential Palaces prisons last December.   “The investigation in the said incident has reached an evidence, pointing out to the involvement of leading security officials in the escape of 12 prisoners, linked to al-Qaeda organization, who had been behind an explosion in Basra ’s Ashar Market, that killed and injured dozens of innocent women and children last year,” Awad told IraqiNews.com.   The prison in Basra ’s Presidential Palaces, belongs to the Province and it comprises most wanted elements of armed groups and al-Qaeda members, and it had been occupied by the British forces, before they withdraw from it in mid 2007.   SKH (ST)     520
