Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, officially invited the Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, on Tuesday to participate in the Ukraine peace summit that will be held on June 15 and 16 in Switzerland.

Al-Sudani and Zelenskyy had a phone call in which they talked about the two countries’ bilateral relations as well as the significance of holding the joint committee between Iraq and Ukraine to strengthen trade and economic cooperation as well as cooperation in the areas of energy and food security, according to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

With respect to Ukrainian companies operating in Iraq, the two sides talked about the steps the Iraqi government has taken to create the best possible investment climate that encourages work and investment.

In mid-May, during a joint press conference with the German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, the Swiss President, Viola Amherd, said that delegations from over 50 countries had been invited to a summit that Switzerland believes would open the door for a peace process in Ukraine.

The summit will expand upon previous months’ worth of debates, particularly on the Ukrainian peace formula and other peace initiatives grounded in the UN Charter and fundamental ideas of international law.

The summit’s main goal is to provide impetus for a future peace process.
