Shell International Company distributes food on poor families in areas surrounding Majnoun Oil Field

BASRA / IraqiNews.com: The Ammar Humanitarian Institution, belonging to the Shell International Company, has distributed foodstuff on poor families, living in northern Basra around the Majnoun Oil Field, its Director reported on Sunday.   “The Ammar Humanitarian Institution has distributed 1,500 boxes, containing basic foodstuff, such as milk, sugar, vegetable oil, salt and rice, on the poor families at the areas of al-Dare, al-Nashwa, al-Halijia and al-Thaqhir areas,” Safi Hamza Majid told IraqiNews.com news agency.’’   He said that “this operation took place on the occasion of the fasting month of Ramadan, being part of Shell Company’s plan to support the local citizens in the area, on the health, educational and vigilance aspects.”   “Shell is looking forward to appoint all unemployed people in the said areas, according to the directions by the Municipal Councils and Tribal Chieftains,” he said.   Noteworthy is that Shell Company had gained Iraq’s 2 nd Licensing Session for an investment contract to develop the Majnoun Oil Field, one of the largest oil fields in Iraq, and had signed a contract about 2 weeks ago with Iraq’s state-owned Southern Gas Investment Company, of the gas accompanying the oil in the southern oil fields.   Basra , the center of the Province carrying the same name, is 590 km to the south of the Iraqi Capital of Baghdad.   SKH (IT) 594
