Nearly 1,000 displaced Iraqis return to original areas of residence

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Minister of Migration and Displacement, Evan Jabro, announced on Thursday that nearly a thousand internally displaced people returned from a refugee camp in Sulaymaniyah to their original areas of residence in Salah Al-Din and Nineveh governorates.
Jabro said in a statement that 935 displaced Iraqis in a refugee camp in Sulaymaniyah returned to Balad district in Salah Al-Din and Sinjar district in Nineveh.
Jabro affirmed that this effort complies with Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani’s orders to persuade displaced families living in camps to willingly return before the closure date of the camps on July 30.
Head of the Migration and Displacement Directorate in Salah Al-Din governorate, Khaled Mahjoub, said in early April that the Ministry of Migration and Displacement offers the displaced returning to their original homes a grant of four million Iraqi dinar (approximately $3,055) in addition to refrigerators, televisions, and cookers.
The Ministry of Migration and Displacement also provides the displaced with relief aid for a full year and job opportunities for family supporters.
The Iraqi official indicated that the camps that were closed included the Kalar camp in Sulaymaniyah governorate, which houses about 80 families from Salah Al-Din, and measures are ongoing to close the Ashti camp, which houses 1,850 families.
