Karbala cuts electric power of Cement Plant
KARBALA / IraqiNews.com: Iraq ’s Karbala Province ’s Council has decided on Monday to cut the electric power, supplied to its Cement Plant, run by a French company, saying that the company “must get its power by itself and to achieve an annual production capacity of 30 million tons,” the Chairman of the Council’s Economic Committee said. “Due to the drop in the electric power, supplied for Karbala Province, the Province’s Council has decided to cut the power, supplied to the Karbala Cement Plant and transform the power for its citizens,” Tareq Gatifa al-Khikany, told IraqiNews.com news agency. He said that the Plant, “steered by the Franch Lavarge Company, was supposed to prepare its own electric power, according to the contract it had signed.” Noteworthy is that the Plant, run by the French Company for more than 6 months, is consuming 15 megawatts, out of the total share of the Province, reaching to 125 megawatts, thing that forced the Province’s Council to supply Karbala citizens with one hour of power every 3 hours. Khekany said that the French company “was committed to increase the plant’s annual production capacity to 30 million tons, thing that we demand the company to achieve, in order to secure the investment safety in our national plants.” SKH (IT) 738
