Al-Iraqiya Coalition can form majority government, but it wants another solution, its Legislature says

KARBALA / IraqiNews.com: Al-Iraqiya Coalition, led by former Prime Minister, Iyad Allawi, is able to form a majority government, but it is looking for another solution for the current Iraqi situation, al-Iraqiya Legislature, Mohammed al-Daamy said on Thursday.   “Al-Iraqiya Coalition is able to form a government of political majority, through its partnership with the Kurdistan Coalition and the Supreme Islamic Council, in order to save the Iraqi situation, that has reached its minimum stage; but we are not for such a solution at the present time,” Daamy told IraqiNews.com news agency.   “We want a common solution, shared by all political blocs, in order to save the Iraqi situation, and we may resort to the formation of a majority government in the forthcoming phase, because the current experience has proved that the national partnership   did not succeed in saving the situation, causing further deterioration in public services and security,” he said.   He added that his al-Iraqiya Coalition “won’t withdraw from the political process, in all its aspects, because such a step would undermine its popular base and reduce its masses, thing that we can’t afford to face.”   “What we are suffering from now is non-existence of a real partnership and the existence of the complex of dividing the positions, whilst we are looking forward for safeguarding the political process, and we are calling on the Prime Minister to account the ministers, who have failed to achieve their duties and the inactive ministers, thing that proves that we are looking for a real partnership and not a political dividing of positions,” he concluded.   Al-Iraqiya’s Leader, Iyad Allawi, had stated to al-Sharq al-Awsat newspaper, after a visit for Arbil on 7/6/2011, where he met Kurdistan President, Massoud Barzani and its Premier, Barham Saleh, that he did not oppose the formation of a government of political majority.   “We can, through an agreement with the Kurdistan Coalition and the Supreme Islamic Council, as well as some parties of the National Coalition, to achieve a majority, and Nouri al-Maliki does not form a majority, despite enjoying an international and regional support.. And if we follow democratic steps, other forces can form a majority, though the Prime Minister, who leads the State of Law Alliance, Nouri al-Maliki, believes that the State of Law forms a political majority,” Allawi said.   SKH (FT)         1024
