Iraq’s Deputy Speaker condemns Kirkuk’s explosion

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com – The Iraqi Parliament’s Deputy Speaker, Aref Teifur, has condemned the “terrorist operation,” that took place in northern Iraq ’s oil-rich city of Kirkuk on Friday, calling for urgent security measures to protect citizens, according to his office on Saturday.   “Persons, belonging to the previous (Baath) regime and the terrorist al-Qaeda organization,still insist to undermine the security of Kirkuk , targeting innocent people of the city, in order to change it into an arena for violence and terrorism.. So, we condemn the terrorist operation that took place on Friday, where a booby-trapped car blew off in the Kurdish Rahimawa area’s market,” Teifur said.   Teifur added in his statement, copy of which landed in IraqiNews.com news agency, said: “we demand the security bodies and the Province’s Council to take strict security measures, in order to activate the security plans and to protect citizens.”   Kirkuk ’s Police Director, Brigadier Sarhad Qader, has stated on Friday that a booby-trapped car, parked on the roadside in Rahimawa area, northeast of Kirkuk , blew up the same day, wounding 20 people, including a child, along with causing material damage to 4 cars and a number of shops.   PT / SKH   442
