Specialized center for removing land mines opened in Missan

MISSAN / IraqiNews.com: A specialized center removing land mines was opened in Missan today, the head of the Health and Environment Commission in the Provincial Council announced today.   Maitham al-Fartousi told IraqiNews.com that “the aim of opening this center in Amara is to remove more than five million land mines that were left on the eastern front of the province during the Iraqi-Iranian war. In addition, we hope to minimize casualties in the province, particularly among the shepherds and oil officials roaming in the region.”   “The opening of the center was carried out by the Provincial Council in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Red Crescent and the Iraqi Army.   The Iraqi Army will assume the responsibility for removing these mines.   Amara, the center of Missan province, lies 390 km south of the capital, Baghdad.
