North Iraq’s Mosul city’s citizens reject Parliament Speaker’s call for Sunni Region

NINEWA / IraqiNews.com: The recent statement of Iraq ’s Parliament Speaker, Usama al-Nujeify, calling   for the establishment of a Sunni Region and the withdrawal of Iraq ’s Sunnis from the political process, had been rejected by the citizens of his Ninewa Province .   A number of citizens of Mosul, the center of Ninewa Province, have told IraqiNews.com news agency that “such positions, aiming at concentrating sectarianism, might boost projects for Iraq’s division, threatening its unity and security,” expressing surprise for such a call, to be issued by the Parliament’s Speaker.   “It is illogical that such call comes out from Nujeify and his political bloc (al-Iraqiya Coalition), whose slogans had been calling, during the elections, for a united Iraq – from Faw in the utmost south to Zakhu in the utmost north, and now issue such statements,” Munir Ghazi, a businessmen in central Mosul told IraqiNews.com.   Ghazi said that “there could be two reasons behind Nujeify’s statements, the first, being political interests and positions and the second was that he announced them during his recent visit to Washington .”   Rejecting the said statements, Ghazi said that “The Land of Two Rivers ( Iraq ) can’t be split due to personal or political positions, and if it splits, its consequences will be horrible for the people.”   Wathah Younis, a Mosul secondary school teacher, said: “Sunnis can’t think that way, and we as Sunni citizens, reject such statements or the idea of the establishment of a Sunni Region, and won’t accept anybody to speak on our behalf in this respect.”   “After all slogans and promises he gave to score our votes in the elections, such a day had come for him to change his slogans and positions, and to express support for the establishment of a Sunni Region or the withdrawal of the Sunnis from the political process,” he wondered.   SKH (RT)   1685
