Ninewa Governor denies charging a military commander with assassination attempt

NINEWA / IraqiNews.com: The Governor of Northern Iraq’s Ninewa Province, Athil al-Nujeify, has denied media reports, claiming his accusation of an Iraqi military commander with having been behind an alleged assassination attempt against him.   “The media reports claiming that I had charged a military commander in Mosul with having been behind an attempt to assassinate me is incorrect,” Nujeify told IraqiNews.com news agency, adding that “an incident took place within the Ninewa Operations Command and not within the 2nd Army Division, charged with the alleged attempt.”   Nujeify stressed: “I renew my previous statement that investigations would uncover that the clash that took place in Ninewa on Friday had been fabricated or natural.”   Two Iraqi soldiers had been injured on Friday due to a clash between a Ninewa Governor’s guard and Iraqi soldiers in a checkpoint of Ninewa Operations Command, that witnessed shooting when the Governor came out of his car.   Mosul, the center of Ninewa Province, is 405 km to the north of Baghdad.   SKH (TI)/SR 269
