3 Tikrit protest organizers arrested

SALAH AL-DIN / IraqiNews.com: The police on Saturday arrested three of the organizers of Friday’s mass protests in the city of Tikrit, according to a local security source. “The three arrested persons, notable figures in the city, were moved to Baghdad. They are the former municipality director, a mosque preacher and a human rights activist,” the source told IraqiNews.com news agency. The Iraqi capital Baghdad had witnessed mass protests in al-Tahrir Square, where seven policemen were wounded after demonstrators pelted them with stones. Two protesters were wounded, according to official security sources. Central, southern and northern provinces have seen similar demonstrations during which acts of violence erupted, leaving some protesters and security men wounded. AmR (TP)/SR 428
