Unknown group sets fire to sit-in demos camp in Sulaimaniya

SULAIMANIYA / IraqiNews.com: An unknown group has attacked and set fire to a camp of sit-in demonstrators in north Iraq’s Kurdistan city of Sulaimaniya on Saturday night, a spokeswoman in their name said.   “A group of unknown persons, wearing black costumes, have set fire to a camp of sit-in demonstrators at the center of Sulaimaniya city on Saturday night,” Naziq Qadir told IraqiNews.com news agency on Sunday, but she did not define the losses caused by the fire.   Qader had said on Saturday that the demonstrators would continue their sit-in demonstration for 24 hours every day, till the achievement of their demands.   In another development, the owner of Radio Dang (Voice), Jaza Mohammed, said that “unknown armed men broke through the Radio’s building on Saturday night, destroying its equipment and appliances,” describing his radio station as “independent.”   Jaza Mohammed did not give further details, but said that the armed men “had escaped to an unknown destination.”   Meanwhile, over 10,000 people have gathered in front of central Sulaimaniya’s Saray Gate on Saturday, for the 15th consecutive day, demanding political reforms and putting an end to corruption, and a large number of them paid their Friday prayers.   Thousands of demonstrators in Sulaimaniya have gone to the streets since Feb. 17th last, demanding political reforms, putting end to corruption and achievement of social justice, as well as freedom of expression.   The first days of the demonstrations had witnessed the killing of seven people and wounding over 100 others, following the stoning of the headquarters of the Kurdistan Democratic Party in Sulaimaniya, thing that pushed its guards to open fire, creating a state of tension in Kurdistan Region.   SKH (TR)/SR 654
