Kurdish demonstrations organizer arrested in Sulaimaniya

SULAIMANIYA / IraqiNews.com: Security authorities in Sulaimaniya city arrested Monday Dr. Rafeeq Farouq, a member of the Temporary Council, for organizing demonstrations in Azadi Square, his lawyer said today. “Farouq was summoned to Sulaimaniya court, but when he arrived he was arrested by the Asayesh security forces,” Lawyer Karwan Kamal told IraqiNews.com news agency. “Reasons behind his arrest still unknown, mostly because for his role in organizing demonstrations”, Kamal said. The Temporary Council for Organizing Demonstrations in Azadi Square was formed following the demonstrations that took place in Kurdistan last February 17.
