Parl. condemns Iraqi physician death by U.S. fire

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The Iraqi parliament’s health committee condemned on Thursday the killing of an Iraqi physician by U.S. forces’ fire in Salah al-Din province. “The committee, denouncing the killing of an Iraqi physician during a raid by U.S. soldiers and Salah al-Din security forces on his house, calls on the prime minister to launch immediate investigations into the incident and bringing the persons involved to justice,” members from the committee said in a press conference held today (March 10). On Tuesday, an Iraqi legislator from Wasat (Centrist) Coalition, Omar al-Juburi, said during a parliament session that U.S. forces conducted an air drop operation on a village in al-Huweija district and raided some houses, killed a physician and arrested his brother. “U.S. special forces, in association with forces from Salah al-Din province, conducted an air drop operation on a village in Huweija, where they killed a physician and detained his brother on Sunday (March 6) night,” Juburi said. Juburi urged the parliament to “condemn this sinful incident and form a committee to investigate it.” He also called for releasing the killed physician’s brother and that the U.S. forces pay compensations to his family. Osama al-Nujeifi, the parliament speaker, asked the security & defense committee to investigate this incident, adding it represented a “clear violation of the status of forces agreement signed between Iraq and the United States.” AmR (TS) 1048
