Law of Parties entangles freedoms, MP

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Deputy chairman of the parliamentary legal commission said today that the Law of Parties submitted by the government will entangle the freedom of the parties and put them under governmental control.   MP Ameer al-Kinani told IraqiNews.com that “the spirit of the law is taken from the   1970 Egyptian law, which does not match a democratic country”.   He added that the law is connected to the ministry of justice, which is part of the executive authority of the state.   “This mechanism shall be rejected”, he added.   He suggested the formation of an independent authority to be connected to the Higher Legislative Council, which shall be headed by a judge.   The first parliamentary reading of the law, that was submitted by the government,   was completed yesterday.   Government spokesman Ali al-Dabbagh announced, earlier, that the draft Law of the Parties was approved by the cabinet and sent to the parliament .   RM (TP) 854
