Iraq calls on Sweden not to deport Iraqis by force

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The Iraqi government called on its Swedish counterpart not to deport Iraqis by force. In a Cabinet statement, as was received by IraqiNews.com, it noted that “there has not yet been any confirmed news that the Swedish authorities are deporting Iraqi nationals, including families and children, merely because of the fact that they are Iraqis.” The statement added that the Iraqi government will not abandon its citizens, provided they are returning voluntarily. Sweden is one of the countries where thousands of Iraqis immigrated to, particularly the Kurds, during the last decades.The Swedish government has lately begun to implement certain measures, including forceful deportation, which aroused the criticism of European human rights organizations.
