3 blocs reject withdrawing MP Sa’idi’s immunity – MP

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: An al-Iraqiya bloc MP disclosed that the bloc rejects withdrawing parliamentary immunity from MP Sabah al-Sa’idi. MP Nahida al-Dainy told IraqiNews.com that al-Iraqiya bloc, the Kurdish bloc, and the Sadrist Trend all reject withdrawing parliamentary immunity from Sa’idi, pointing out that he has the right to make statements and criticize the government in light of his parliamentary supervision authority. MP Sa’idi presented a document proving the attempt to assassinate him, in addition to a number of other parliamentary members, journalists and tribal sheikhs. He charged Baathists working in important governmental institutions as being behind these attempts, as well as Premier Maliki for adopting practices rampant during the reign of Saddam in issuing an arrest warrant against him.
