Iraqi-Iranian border demarcation completed by 70%, Iraqi ambassador

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Iraqi ambassador to Iran announced today that 70% of Iraqi-Iranian border demarcation completed, pointing out that the remaining dispute is on Shatt al-Arab waterway. Ambassador Mohammed Hameed Al-Sheikh told IraqiNews.com that the main difference is on the Thalwig line, which is the deepest point in the waterway. “We demand to return to international agreements, while the commissions are currently debating this question”, he added. The agreements between two countries cannot be abrogated without their consent with the UN coordination. Foreign Ministry Under-secretary Labeed Abawi stated, earlier, that the joint technical committee for border demarcation is still working, but not fully completed its work, pointing out that the work is within the agreements between the two countries.
