Fire breaks out in anti-terrorism prison in Kut

WASSIT / IraqiNews.com: A fire has broken out in the anti-terrorism prison in central Kut, the center of southern Iraq‘s Wassit Province on Wednesday, causing no human losses, a Wassit police source reported. He said the fire did not cause any casualties, but eyewitnesses told IraqiNews.com news agency that they saw ambulances transport a number of injured persons to a hospital. The police source said that ambulances and fire-trucks headed to the prison to extinguish the fire and drive the wounded persons to hospital. Noteworthy is that a Wassit security force on Tuesday night arrested Ziyad Salman al-Duleimy, one of the leaders of the so-called “Islamic State of Iraq,” along with weapons and ammunition, during an attack on his house in Suwaira township, 135 km to the north of Kut. Wassit Province, 180 km to the southeast of Baghdad, has witnessed general security stability, despite some blasts over the past few weeks. SKH (TP)/SR 401
