Call to compensate victims of ex-Iraqi regime – Minister

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The Iraqi Human Rights Minister disclosed that the government will repay the victims of the previous regime, calling on the world community to recognize such move, according to a media statement released by the ministry today. Minister Mohammed al-Sudani said at the ministry’s conference on the internationalization of the violations of the previous regime, held in London, that “the aim of the conference is to call world community to recognize the crimes practiced against the Iraqi people, which were manifested by its downfall in an ugly way”. He added that the Iraqi government compensated them “in a small manner that will not compensate them for their sufferings”. The conference was held in mid London, 12-14 January 2012, with official and civilian participation by Iraqi and British establishments, as well as important personalities. RM (TS)/SR701
