Qaeda commander killed, 19 gunmen detained in Mosul

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: A commander in al-Qaeda Organization, called Majid Hassan, has been killed and 19 gunmen have been detained in armed clashes south of Mosul, the Interior Ministry’s Spokesman Adel Dahham stated today. “Iraq’s 3rd Federal Police Division have attacked a group of armed men, stationed in Urfaliya area, south of Mosul on Saturday, killing al-Qaeda Comander, Majid Hassan, during the clashes between both sides,” Dahham told the semi-official al-Iraqiya TV Satellite Channel. Dahham said that the police forces managed to detain 19 armed men, belonging to al-Qaeda Organization, confiscating a large arms and ammunition depot, adding that the operation was implemented according to intelligence information. Mosul, the center of northern Iraq’s Ninewa Province, is 405 km to the north of Baghdad.
