Call to include a Christian site in investment plan
Al-Aqiser Church, the oldest church in Iraq and the Middle East.
KARBALA / IraqiNews.com: The head of Investment Auditing Department in Karbala called to include Al-Aqiser Church site within the investment program and re-open it before international companies to be another touristic vent in the province. Zuhair al-Kiraiti told IraqiNews.com that the church is one of the oldest ones in the Middle East. He added that Karbala has about 300 touristic sites which are not fully utilized. The Christian church site was a Christian city in the fourth century AD, which was the refuge for the militants against the Byzantine Empire, which contains a number of graveyards, towers and religious places.
