3 killed, 8 wounded in Iraq violence till Sunday afternoon

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Three people were killed and eight others wounded in acts of violence in different areas of Iraq during the period between 9:00 p.m. on Saturday and 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, according to security sources. In Baghdad, an Iraqi police source told IraqiNews.com that an improvised explosive device (IED) went off on Sunday in the area of al-Baladiyat, eastern Baghdad, near a police patrol, leaving four, including three patrolmen, wounded. The same source said that a sticky IED attached to a vehicle carrying Iraqi health ministry staff went off on Sunday near the ministry building in Bab al-Muadham area, central Baghdad, injuring four and causing severe damage to the vehicle. In Kirkuk, 250 km northeast of the Iraqi capital, the province’s districts’ police department said that clashes erupted today between security forces and gunmen in an area between Sarkoun and al-Riad districts, southwestern Kirkuk. “Three gunmen, including a man wanted by security authorities of the name Nassif Jassem Mohammed, were killed in those clashes,” Sarhad Qader told IraqiNews.com. Qader added that policemen on Sunday defused an IED planted near a checkpoint in Leilan district, southern Kirkuk, leaving no casualties or material damage. AmR (S)/SR 1
