MP suggests nominating candidates from minor communities for IHEC membership

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) MP, Aboud al-Esawi, of the State of Law Coalition suggested “Nominating the candidates of the Commissioners Council of the Independent High Electoral Commission from the minor communities.”

In a press statement issued by him on Wednesday, he confirmed “We have the desire to nominate the candidates from the minor communities for the IHEC Commissioners Council to ensure the independence of the elections.”

“Forming the IHEC according to the confessionalism will keep it away from the independence,” he emphasized.

“The political reforms and the principal of independence are related to the IHEC and the electoral system,” he concluded.

Earlier, the parliament voted on increasing the members of the IHEC from 9 to 15 members during last Tuesday session.
