Weapons cache found in south of Kut

Wassit-Depot WASSIT / IraqiNews.com: Iraqi security forces on Tuesday found a stockpile of weapons and explosives in the south of Kut, a police source said. “Police forces found today a weapons depot with 20 containers of weapons, ammunitions and explosives in Wassit district in the south of Kut,” the source told IraqiNews.com. “The operation was based on a tip-off,” he also said. Security forces have intensified their deployment in Wassit in preparation for receiving the security file from the Multinational forces on Wednesday. A Shiite province, Wassit, 180 km south of Baghdad, is in the east of the country. Its name comes from the Arabic word meaning “middle,” as it lies along the Tigris about midway between Baghdad and Basra. Its major cities include the capital, al-Kut, and al-Hayy. Prior to 1976 it was known as Kut Province. SH (P)/SR 1
