Talabani: public must be acquainted with security pact

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Iraqi President Jalal Talabani on Thursday stressed the necessity of acquainting the Iraqi public with the proposed Iraqi-U.S. long-term security pact. The statement was made during Talabani’s reception of the U.S. ambassador in Iraq, Ryan Crocker, and his accompanying delegation, according to a presidential release. “The two sides discussed the political situation, particularly the security pact,” said the release that was received by IraqiNews.com. “Talabani stressed the necessity of acquainting the different Iraqi components with the pact’s items and its positive effects to ensure security and stability and to develop the country,” it added. “Talabani highlighted the pact’s importance for the two countries,” it noted. “The two sides agreed to make more effort and contacts to accelerate the process of signing the pact,” according to the release.
