Sadr describes postponing PC elections as Disaster

Najaf (IraqiNews.com) The head of the Sadr Trend, Muqtada al-Sadr, described “Postponing the elections of the Provincial Councils as “The disaster that we can not keep silent towards it.”

In response to question by a group of journalists over his opinion concerning the statement of the head of the Independent High Electoral Commission, Faraj al-Haidari, over postponing the PCs elections for one year due to the lack of suffesient allocations, Sadr said “Postponing the elections even for hours or days will be a disaster.”

“Every thing that hurdle the elections should be eliminated immediately and the IHEC should announce the elections day to enable the government to prepare for it,” he added.

“All sides should work on conducting the elections on time and the parliament should form the new IHEC in addition to endorsing the elections law as soon as possible,” he concluded.

Earlier, the head of the Independent High Electoral Commission, Faraj al-Haidari, ruled out conducting the elections of the Provincial Councils due to the insufficient financial allocations.
