Maliki intends performing important tourist projects in Iraq

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki, announced that “The government intends to perform important tourist projects in Baghdad and the provinces.”

A statement by Maliki’s office received by IraqiNews.com quoted Maliki while receiving the Secretary General of the International Tourism Organization, Talib al-Refai, as saying “There are some achievements in the tourism field such as constructing more than fifty tourist hotels and other utilities.”

Maliki stressed the necessity of “Activating the tourist sector in Iraq and developing it in order to achieve good incomes that we need in addition to our wish to let the world knows the great history of Iraq in all cultural, religious and archeological fields.”

For his part, Refai stressed “The readiness of the Organization to support Iraq in this field due to the huge investments opportunities.”

“In spite of all the wars and challenges that Iraq has faced, but it was a tourist destination, especially the religious one and the existence of the political will to develop this field makes us optimistic in the future of tourism in Iraq.”
