Kobler expresses to Hakim, UN’s concerns about Iraqi political crisis

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The head of the Supreme Iraqi Islamic Council Ammar al-Hakim stressed that the solutions for the current Iraqi political crisis should be coming from the within the Iraqi house, appreciating the role of the UN in developing the Iraqi situation.

A statement by Hakim’s office to Iraqi News cited Monday “Hakim received in his office in Baghdad the UN Secretary General’s Special Representative Martin Kobler on Monday and exchanged with him the view points about the current political crisis in Iraq.”

The statement added “Kobler expressed the deep concerns of the United Nations towards the political crisis in Iraq,” stressing that “The UN does not interfere in the internal problems of any country.”

The statement mentioned that “The UN envoy assured that the UN will continue providing support the work of the new formation of the Independent High Electoral Commission and the subject of forming the Human Rights Commission, as well as assisting to endorse certain laws, including the oil and gas law.”

The statement also said that “Kobler stressed that the Iraqi government needs to provide the best services to Iraqi citizens and not take the current crisis as a pretext for the delay of progress and development of Iraq and the welfare of its people in the different areas and fields.”

“The United Nations will continue initiating dialogues with all parties of the Iraqi scene,” according to Kobler, who indicated that “The continuation of the current crisis is not in favor of Iraq and its people.”
