Harb: Kobler’s statements violated legal basis of his post

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Legal Expert, Tariq Harb, described the statements of The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Iraq, Martin Kobler, in Najaf as “Violation to the legal basis of his post in Iraq.”

During a press conference after meeting the religious authority, Grand Ayatollah Sayed Ali al-Sistani, in Najaf on Thursday morning, Kobler stated “Iraq is witnessing a dangerous crisis and there are violations to the human rights.”

Harb added “The basis of assigning Kobler in Iraq according to the UN’s decision No. 770 in 2007 which specified Kobler’s task to support Iraq,” noting that “Kobler’s statements are violating this task and increase the political crisis which make him no longer neutral in his attitudes where he and the UN did not support Iraq to release it from the Seventh Chapter of the UN’s Charter.”

“There are many countries have decided a right decision by not having a representative of the UN in their countries such as Libya, Tunis, Egypt and Yemen where we hope Kobler to work on settling the crisis rather than increasing it,” he concluded.
